Physics-Astronomy IT Support

The P-A IT team assists with any and all IT equipment and software in the MSU Department of Physics and Astronomy. This includes computers, printers, network devices, software installs and software behavior.

 

HOW DO I GET HELP FROM P-A IT?

What Information Should I Provide in my Helpdesk Requests?

  • The room number where the problem is happening.
  • A contact phone number and email address.
  • A detailed description of the problem, including courses that are impacted.
  • If you are submitting a request for another person, include their contact information.

HOW DO I CREATE A HELPDESK ACCOUNT?

  1. In a web browser, go to https://helpdesk.pa.msu.edu.
  2. Click "Sign up now".
  3. Enter your name and email address, then click "create".
  4. You should receive an email with instructions for activating your account. Follow these instructions to receive a temporary password.
  5. You should now be able to log in. From here you can change your password, submit new tickets, or review old ones. Use a unique password. DO NOT use the same password you use for EBS, banking, etc.

HOW DO I CREATE A TICKET USING EMAIL?

  1. Send an email to helpdesk@pa.msu.edu or PA.DL.helpdesk@msu.edu.
  2. A ticket will be automatically created for you.
  3. You should receive an automatic email confirmation and ticket number within a few minutes.

HOW DO I CREATE A TICKET USING THE SYSTEM?

HOW DO I REPLY TO A TICKET USING EMAIL?

  1. Reply to the confirmation email or to manual replies to your ticket. Make sure to include your ticket number in the subject.
  2. As long as the ticket number is in the subject, your ticket will be automatically updated.

    OTHER INFORMATION

    • BPS Network Issues: MSU IT Services maintains the BPS building wired and wireless networks, but P-A IT is responsible for troubleshooting all network issues and then reporting problems to ITS. If you wish to report an after-hours network problem to ITS yourself, you may call 2-6200 but please notify P-A IT as well.
