2014: FRIB Groundbreaking Ceremony

FRIB Groundbreaking Ceremony, 17 March 2014

On a clear but cold 17th of March 2014, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) was held near the FRIB construction worksite on the MSU campus.

Among those participating were current MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon and former MSU President M. Peter McPherson; U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, U.S. Representatives Mike Rogers, Tim Walberg and David Camp and other members of Michigan's Congressional delegation; Timothy Hallman, associate director of science for nuclear physics, U.S. Department of Energy; and Michael Knotek, deputy undersecretary for science and energy, U.S. Department of Energy.
