LOCAL PERFORMANCE RECORDING/REPRODUCTION

The Local Performance Recording/Reproduction system (LPR/R) is a method of recording and playing back sound that takes realism in audio to a new level. Taking advantage of the large data capacity of contemporary digital methods, the system isolates the sound of individual instruments on separate channels. The separate channels are distributed to the listener and finally reproduced by loudspeakers that are dedicated to reproducing the radiation patterns of the corresponding instruments.

The LPR/R technique is protected by a United States patent issued to W.M. Hartmann on 2 August 2005 and assigned to Michigan State University, number 6,925,426.
